Mr. Joseph Laoye Jaiyeola, FCIB - President/Chairman of Council
Mr. ‘Laoye Jaiyeola, FCIB, a thorough bred chartered banker, has been elected as the 16th President/Chairman of Council of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, at the 2009 Annual General Meeting of the Institute that held on Saturday, May 8, 2010.

Mr. Jaiyeola has contributed immensely to the growth and development of the Institute in particular and the economy in general. He served the Institute and the country in various capacities such as, the Editor, The Lagos Banker 1990; Publicity Secretary, CIBN Lagos Branch 1992 – 1996; Examiner, Financial Management, Corporate Finance & Practice of Banking, CIBN 1993 – 2006; Treasurer, CIBN Lagos Branch 1996 – 2000; 2nd Vice Chairman, CIBN Lagos Branch, 2002 – 2004; Chairman, Education Committee, 2006 – 2008; 2nd Vice President of the Institute, 2006 – 2008; Chairman, Board of Fellows, 2008 – 2010; 1st Vice President, CIBN 2008 – 2010; Ag. President, CIBN August 2009 to May 8, 2010.

He commenced his banking career in 1979 with the Central Bank of Nigeria as a clerical staff and rose to the post of Assistant Manager/Dealer in 1995. In the same year (1995) he got employment with Kakawa Discount House Limited as a Senior Dealer. In 1998 he was promoted to Head, Treasury and subsequently became Head, Investment Services Group in 2000. He was in 2005 appointed the Managing Director/Chief Executive of the company, a position he occupies till date. He also serves as Chairman, Kakawa Asset Management Limited.

He is a member of the Board of Trustees, Financial Markets Dealers Association since 2008 till date. He was also the President, Financial Markets Dealers Association, 2001 – 2003; Chairman, Board of Studies, Treasurer Dealership Certificate (TDC) 2003 – 2008; Chairman, Technical Committee, 13th Nigeria Economic Summit Group, 2007; Chairman, 14th Nigeria Economic Summit, 2008; Member, Vision 2020 Business Support Group Steering Council, 2009; Member, Vision 20: 2020 Financial Sector Thematic Group, 2009, Vice Chairman Junior Achievement Nigeria (2008 – date) among others.

He attended Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, where he obtained a B. Sc degree in Economics in 1985. He proceeded to the University of Lagos where he earned a Masters degree in Banking and Finance (MBF) in 1995.

Mr. Jaiyeola qualified as an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (ACIB) in 1991 and was invested with the Institute’s Fellowship in 2002. He is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) (FCA) and a Member Institute of Directors (MIoD)

Given his background and experience, Mr. ‘Laoye Jaiyeola is well positioned to accelerate the goals and objectives of the Institute. We are certain that he would bring his wealth of knowledge and experience to bear on the affairs of the Institute and the financial services industry as a whole during the period of his tenure in office.

Mr. Jaiyeola is happily married with children.

Mr. Segun Aina, OFR, FCIB - 1st Vice President
Mr. Segun Aina, OFR, FCIB, was elected as the 1st Vice President. Prior to his election, he has served the Institute in various capacities including, 2nd Vice President 2004 -2006; Chairman, Corporate & Public Affairs Committee, 2004 -2008; Chairman, Strategic Planning Committee; Vice Chairman/Ag. Chairman, Corporate and Public Affairs Committee (CPAC) 2008 – 2010 and a member of Council of the Institute, 1998 to 2006. He also served to promote the banking profession as Chairman of Banking Insurance and Capital Markets Committee of the Institute of Directors (IOD) 2007 – 2009.

Mr. Aina, a product of Universities of Lagos and Ibadan, holds a number of academic and professional qualifications, notable among which are, Masters of Science in Banking and Finance; Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He qualified as Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of London (ACIB) in 1979. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, (FCIB), London and Nigeria; Fellow, Nigeria Institute of Management (FNIM), Fellow, Institute of Directors (FIOD); Member, Canadian Council on Africa as well as membership of many other professional associations in and outside Nigeria. He is also an alumnus of Lagos Business School; INSEAD, France and IMD, Switzerland.

Mr. Aina, a seasoned and well grounded professional Banker, has contributed significantly to the growth and development of the banking industry. He started his professional banking career at the United Bank for Africa Plc in 1974, moved to Ecobank Nigeria Plc as Assistant General Manager in 1989 and rose to the position of Executive Director of the bank in February, 1994. He left the services of Ecobank Plc in 1999 and joined Fountain Trust Bank Plc (now member of Spring Bank Plc) as the Managing Director/Chief Executive until his voluntary retirement from the bank in 2004. In addition, he has served as Director of many other institutions within the financial services industry such as: Nigeria Interbank Settlement Scheme PLC (NIBBS), First Securities Discount House Ltd, (FSDH) and FITC

In addition to playing active roles in the banking industry, such as providing consulting services to financial institutions, Mr. Aina also currently serves on the Boards of many institutions including Chairman, Kedari Capital Ltd (an investment banking firm), Chairman, Board of Trustees, United Nations Development Programme Human Development Fund Osun State and member of Development Boards of three Nigerian Universities, namely: Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife; Federal University of Technology, Akure and Osun State University.

He was the President, West African Bankers Association (Nigerian Chapter), 1999 – 2001 and Chairman, Banking Industry Public Enlightenment Committee (a Sub-Committee of Bankers Committee), 2005 – 2008.

Otunba (Mrs) 'Debola Osibogun, FCIB - 2nd Vice President
Otunba (Mrs.) ‘Debola Osibogun was elected as the 2nd Vice President of the Institute. She attended Queens School Ibadan between 1973 and 1975 for her Advanced Level certificate. She gained admission into the University of Ibadan in 1975 and bagged a Bachelors Degree in Economics in the year 1978. Not satisfied with her academic achievements, she enrolled and bagged a Masters Degree in Banking and Finance at the same University in 1988.

Otunba Osibogun commenced her banking career in 1979 with the then Co-operative Bank Plc as an Inspector and occupied the position of Senior Advances Manager from 1988 - 1994. She was appointed General Manager, Co-op Savings & Loans Ltd. in 1997, a post she held until 2003 when she was promoted to Managing Director of the institution. Other positions she held include General Manager, Co-operative Bank Plc, 2005; Regional Director, Skye Bank Plc, 2006 – 2008 and Managing Director, Skye Trustees Limited, 2008 – 2009.

An accomplished Amazon of the Nigerian banking industry and a seasoned technocrat, Otunba Osibogun, qualified as Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (ACIB) in 1994 and was subsequently conferred with the Fellowship status of the Institute in 2005. She is also an Associate of Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.

Osibogun’s outstanding contributions towards the growth and development of CIBN include her roles as Member, Executive Committee, CIBN Ibadan Branch, 1997 – 1999; Examiner, Mortgage Finance, 2001 – 2004; Member, CIBN Research & Publications Committee, 2001 – 2004; National President, Mortgage Bankers Association, 2002 – 2004; Zonal Chairman, Association for Professional Women Bankers, Oyo/Osun States Zone, 2000 – 2006; Member CIBN Disciplinary Tribunal 2003; Member Editorial Board of Bankers News 2003; Chairman, CIBN Ibadan Branch, 2004 – 2006; and Member, CIBN Governing Council. 2004 – 2006.

Similarly, she had served the Country in various ways including her active roles as Member, Presidential Committee on Housing and Urban Development; Member, Presidential Committee on Mortgage Finance; Member, Real Estate Developers Association and Member, Board of Trustees of Mortgage Bankers Association. Otunba (Mrs.) Debola Osibogun is happily married with children.

Mr. Uche Messiah Olowu, FCIB - National Treasurer
Mr. Uche Messiah Olowu was elected the Institute’s National Treasurer. As a young Chartered Banker, Mr. Olowu served the Institute in the following areas: Vice Chairman, CIBN Port Harcourt Branch 1988; Vice Chairman, CIBN Local Organizing Committee on Bankers Conference, 1999; Chairman, CIBN Port Harcourt Branch, 2000 – 2008; Member, CIBN Council Ad – hoc Committee on AGM/Elections, 2002; Member, CIBN Governing Council, 2002 – 2004; Member, CIBN Membership and Branch Development Committee, 2002 – 2004 ; and Member, CIBN Education Committee, 2004 – 2006, among others.

Mr. Olowu holds a Diploma in Banking and Finance, Rivers State University of Science & Technology (RUST), 1988; Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA), RUST, 2000. He qualified as an Associate, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (ACIB), 1995 and was later elevated to the Fellowship cadre in 2008.

His flourishing banking career started from 1982 as a Clerical Staff at the United Bank for Africa Plc, 1982 – 1985. He rose to become Branch Manager/Branch Accountant, 1994 – 1996; Regional Credit Officer, South 1996 – 1998; Manager, Corporate Banking (Energy), South, 1998 – 1999. He joined Equitorial Trust Bank Ltd in year 2000 as Senior Relationship Manager, Group Head, Oil & Gas before crossing over to Fountain Trust Bank Plc for the post of Senior Manager/Branch Relationship Manager, 2002 – 2004. He became Assistant General Manager/Divisional Head, South, 2005, a positioned he held until his second missionary journey to UBA Plc in 2006 as Principal Manager/Head Energy, Corporate & Energy Desk, South Bank.

At present, Mr. Uche Olowu is practicing banking at Union Bank of Nigeria Plc as AGM/Head, Energy, Corporate Banking Group and at same time pursuing a Ph.D programme on “Emotional Intelligence Consciousness and Effective Managerial Leadership” at Rivers State University of Science and Technology. Mr. Uche Olowu is happily married with children.

Dr. Uju M.Ogubunka, Ph.D, FCIB - Chief Executive / Registrar
Dr. 'Uju M. Ogubunka, a Chartered Banker, was in full time banking practice for twenty-three years before venturing into consulting, research, training, mediation and public speaking in 1998 prior to his joining the Institute as Director, Consultancy, Training and Research in 1999.

In 2006, he was appointed the Registrar/Chief Executive, The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.He holds a Ph.D in Banking and Finance from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri and he is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria and an Associate, Chartered Institute of Bankers, London. He is also a member of Body of Neutrals, Abuja Multi-Door Court House.

He has authored, co-authored and edited many published papers and books including Elements of Privatization in Nigeria and Walking Ahead of Bank Distress. He has interest in reading and research, meditation and television sports.
